Ibis Cares main focus may be on looking after the elderly, but the aged care provider is now also investing in future generations thanks to a solar power project that will see the organisation reduce energy requirements by some 35% annually.

In a sign of Ibis Care’s commitment to modernisation and a greener, more sustainable future, the facility has had a total of 527 solar panels installed across its Ferndale Gardens facility rooftops as part of the $310,000 investment – the result being a 323.15kW solar system.

CEO of Ibis Care, La Stacey Baramy, is proud to be overseeing the initiative, sighting a range of benefits to the organisation, but also its residents.

“This solar power project marks a really important step toward building a more sustainable future for Ferndale Gardens and Ibis Care as a whole,” said Ms Baramy.

“The projected 35% reduction in energy requirements at Ferndale Gardens is expected to translate to a saving of just over $100,000. These are funds that we will re-invest back into the facility, our amazing people and residents.

“We firmly believe in taking steps that benefit both our environment and the communities we serve and by investing in renewable energy, we’re ensuring that Ferndale Gardens is a leading example of forward-thinking aged care.”

The project was completed in late 2024, with solar energy experts, Energus, undertaking the work, while Energywise have also consulted on the project.

Energus boasts significant aged care experience and has also been responsible for similar projects at Sydney Olympic Park, Australian National Maritime Museum, The Sydney Art Gallery and car dealerships like Volvo and Mercedes.

“Just like the care we provide to our residents, we’re absolutely committed to doing the right thing for our environment,” said Ms Baramy.

“Energus have vast experience in solar energy, and have played a crucial role in helping set us on the path to a greener future by ensuring that the design and installation of our system is carried out in a safe and efficient way that ultimately yields results.

“We’ve also gone the extra mile by having Energywise advise us on other ways that we can improve our carbon footprint and reduce emissions as an aged care provider.

“Make no mistake, this is just the first step in what will be an ongoing commitment to a greener future from Ibis Care.”
